Solskin develops intelligent, adaptive photovoltaic façade systems that combine solar energy generation, climate-responsive shading and architectural design. Developed through years of research at the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich, the technology consists of modular, movable solar units that follow the sun and adapt to changing environmental conditions. Solskin can be integrated vertically or horizontally into new and existing buildings while respecting the original architectural character. The system can increase electricity production by up to 40% compared with static photovoltaic panels, reduce cooling demand by up to 40% and lower the overall energy demand of a building by up to 80%, depending on the climate, location and façade design. Solskin places user comfort, sustainability and design flexibility at the centre of its approach. Its prefabricated modular system supports fast installation and can be adapted to a wide range of architectural concepts. The company has received numerous national and international distinctions, including two Architizer A+Awards, the Watt d’Or 2023, the SFE Product of the Year 2025 and two Swiss Solar Prize awards in 2025.
