ALUNOVA: Framing the Future of the Window Industry

In the window and door industry, innovation is not always defined by the largest component. Sometimes, progress begins with a profile, a fixing system or a small detail capable of making an entire installation more efficient.

This is the space in which Italian manufacturer Alunova has built its identity.

Founded in 2007 by Michele Gobbi and Simone Bologna, the company emerged from their experience in the production and design of metal window coverings and aluminium shutter profiles. From its base in Casaleone, near Verona, Alunova has developed into a specialist supplier focused on products that complement, protect and improve modern window and door systems.

Its portfolio includes aluminium shutters and blinds, exterior covers for timber frames, entrance-door panels and architectural handles. Although these elements may sit around the main window or door system, they play an important role in durability, appearance, installation and long-term performance.

Alunova’s approach is shaped by a combination of Italian design culture, material research and an understanding of the practical needs of manufacturers and installers.

Rather than competing only through standard products, the company has concentrated on developing specialised and customisable solutions. More than ten patents have emerged from this focus on research and development, reflecting a business model built around identifying technical problems and turning them into new commercial opportunities.

The most prominent recent example is ISYFIX.

Designed and patented by Alunova, the clip was developed to simplify the installation of aluminium covers on timber window frames. Conventional fixing methods often require clips to be screwed directly into the frame. ISYFIX removes this stage, allowing the exterior aluminium profile to be securely attached without drilling into the timber.

The solution may appear modest, but its practical implications are significant.

By avoiding screws, the system helps preserve the integrity and appearance of the wooden frame. It can reduce installation time, simplify the work required from the installer and provide a strong connection designed to withstand weathering and long-term mechanical stress.

Compatibility across Alunova’s range also allows the clip to be used with different types of window and sliding systems. Made from recyclable materials, it reflects the company’s wider emphasis on reducing waste and improving the environmental profile of its products.

Sustainability has become an increasingly visible part of Alunova’s industrial strategy. The company places particular importance on recyclable aluminium, material durability and energy efficiency throughout product development.

This position is especially relevant for exterior window components. Products such as shutters, frame coverings and entrance-door panels are continuously exposed to sunlight, moisture and temperature changes. Their environmental value depends not only on how they are made, but also on how effectively they protect other materials and extend the useful life of the complete system.

Alunova’s aluminium covers illustrate this principle. By shielding timber from direct exposure to the weather, they can combine the warmth and insulating qualities of wood internally with the resilience and low maintenance of aluminium externally.

The same balance between performance and visual freedom can be seen in the Novashutters and Novadoors collections. A broad range of colours, finishes and configurations enables manufacturers and architects to adapt the products to regional building traditions as well as contemporary design.

The company has also strengthened its international ambitions in recent years. Its participation at major industry events, including BAU in Munich and Klimahouse in Bolzano, has placed its latest products before a wider professional audience and reinforced its position within the European window and building-envelope sector.

A revised visual identity introduced in 2022 expressed this direction through the message “Frame the open space”. The phrase refers literally to the profiles surrounding windows and doors, but it also captures the company’s willingness to explore what comes next.

Alunova does not manufacture the entire window. Instead, it focuses on the specialised components capable of making that window more durable, more distinctive and easier to install. In a sector where performance is often determined by the quality of the smallest details, that focus may prove to be one of its greatest strengths.
