Fire-rated glazing supports light-filled transformation of former Canal+ headquarters

The former Canal+ corporate headquarters in Issy-les-Moulineaux, just outside Paris, has been comprehensively reimagined as Goodlife — a contemporary mixed-use development combining offices, wellness facilities, public spaces and community amenities.

At the heart of this ambitious adaptive reuse project is the integration of high-performance fire safety glazing by Pyroguard, ensuring that the building’s renewed architectural openness is matched by uncompromising fire protection.

From Corporate Headquarters to Mixed-Use Ecosystem

Originally completed in 2002, the 28,000 m² l’Eiffel building comprises eight storeys above ground and five basement levels. Its transformation required far more than a conventional refurbishment.

Led by Atelier 115 Architects, the scheme introduced new vertical connections, expanded façade elements and a reconfigured central patio supported by an enhanced steel structure. The goal was to create a brighter, more permeable environment aligned with contemporary expectations of wellbeing, sustainability and flexibility.

A key challenge lay in maintaining visual continuity while meeting stringent fire safety standards — particularly around stair cores, atriums and internal circulation routes.

Delivering Transparency Without Compromise

To achieve this balance, approximately 650 m² of Pyroguard Protect EI60 fire-rated glass was specified for internal partitions. Installed in edge-to-edge glazed configurations, the system surrounds stairwells, atrium spaces and meeting rooms, allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the building while providing 60 minutes of fire resistance.

Beyond fire integrity and insulation, Pyroguard Protect offers strong acoustic performance and UV stability — attributes that contribute to occupant comfort and long-term durability. The result is a glazing solution that supports both architectural ambition and regulatory compliance.

Collaboration at Every Stage

The delivery of the glazing package relied on close coordination between specialist partners.

MAF Atlantique acted as designer and manufacturer, engineering the system to meet both aesthetic and performance requirements. TSM France carried out the installation, while structural steel framing was supplied by Jansen.

Pyroguard’s technical team supported the project from early specification and certification through to on-site integration, ensuring seamless compatibility between glazing, framing and structural elements.

Jérôme Bastien, Regional Sales Director at Pyroguard, commented:

“This project demonstrates how advanced fire-rated glazing can support high-performance, low-carbon redevelopment. Collaboration was essential in bringing the architectural vision to life while fully meeting contemporary environmental and safety standards.”

Guillaume Leborgne, Directeur Général at MAF Atlantique, added:

“Pyroguard’s technical expertise proved invaluable. The final solution is both visually refined and technically robust, aligned with the sustainability ambitions of the project.”

Supporting Low-Carbon Ambitions

Goodlife is targeting multiple environmental certifications, including HQE, BREEAM and BBCA Renovation, underlining its commitment to low-carbon adaptive reuse within the Paris region.

As a fully tested and certified system compliant with European fire safety standards, Pyroguard Protect contributes to these sustainability objectives while ensuring long-term safety performance within modern façade and interior glazing systems.

A Landmark Reimagined

The completed development now operates as a vibrant mixed-use ecosystem, combining workplaces with sport and wellness facilities, hospitality spaces and a community hub.

The Goodlife project stands as a compelling example of how innovative fire safety glazing can enhance architectural design rather than constrain it. Through careful detailing and close collaboration, Pyroguard Protect has enabled the building to evolve into a bright, secure and future-ready environment — where performance, aesthetics and environmental responsibility coexist seamlessly.
