Schirmer: Four Decades of Precision and Partnership

Last Updated: October 7, 2025By Tags: , ,

Since its founding in 1979, Schirmer Maschinen GmbH has stood for innovation, reliability and modular engineering. What began as a small workshop in Sennestadt, Germany, with the construction of the first automated profile processing centre for the wood and window industry, has evolved into one of Europe’s leading specialists in high-performance machining systems. Today, Schirmer’s technology enables manufacturers worldwide to achieve precision, flexibility and efficiency in the processing of PVC, aluminium, steel and composite profiles.

Modular Thinking, Tailored Solutions

Schirmer’s success rests on its modular construction principle. The company designs and builds individual machines and fully automated lines that can be tailored to customer requirements across multiple industries — from windows and façades to furniture, automotive and aviation. Each solution is the product of detailed consultation, planning and integration, ensuring that automation levels, machining quality and productivity align perfectly with specific production needs.

The philosophy is simple but powerful: Simply modular. Simply efficient. Simply Schirmer. Customers benefit from complete project support — planning, setup, commissioning, training and long-term service.

A Partnership Rooted in Innovation

A pivotal chapter in Schirmer’s history began in 1980, when founder Thorsten Schirmer met Hans Beckhoff, the founder of Beckhoff Automation. The collaboration between mechanical engineering and control technology transformed both companies. Beckhoff supplied the first machine controls to Schirmer that same year, and by the mid-1980s the first PC-controlled machining centre had reached the market.

In 2016, forty years after both companies were founded, Schirmer officially became part of the Beckhoff Automation Group — a natural step that strengthened the bond between engineering and automation excellence.

Built on Reliability and Local Strength

Now headquartered in Verl, in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region, Schirmer employs more than 260 people and works with 20 sales partners worldwide. Many of its employees have been part of the company for decades, reflecting a culture grounded in loyalty and craftsmanship. Despite its global reach, Schirmer remains firmly connected to its local roots — just ten kilometres from where it all began.

The company continues to combine solid economic management with long-term customer partnerships. Its reputation for meeting deadlines, honouring commitments and delivering consistent performance has earned it lasting trust across industries.

Shaping the Future of Profile Processing

From small craft businesses to large industrial manufacturers, Schirmer’s systems have become an essential part of production for windows, doors, façades and beyond. As industries demand higher precision, automation and material diversity, Schirmer continues to push the limits of what profile processing can achieve.

With four decades of expertise and the backing of Beckhoff’s automation leadership, Schirmer is poised to define the next era of intelligent, modular and future-ready profile machining — a company where innovation is engineered into every edge.
